El arte tiene muchos significados y muchas ideas detrás. Cada obra de arte tendrá un significado diferente, dependiendo de a quién se le pregunte. La gente crea arte por diferentes motivos: algunos para hacer algo bonito, otros para dar rienda suelta a su creatividad y compartirla con el mundo, otros simplemente por aburrimiento. El artista callejero Jamie Paul Scanlon, sin embargo, empezó a crear arte por una razón diferente.

Jamie, más conocido como JPS en sus redes sociales, no tuvo la mejor infancia, ni suerte. La vida le abatió tantas veces que se entregó al "consumo de alcohol y drogas", como dijo el propio JPS. Afortunadamente, Jamie redescubrió el arte y éste le mostró que podía hacer mucho más y dar un giro a su vida. Y eso es exactamente lo que hizo.

JPS dijo a Bored Panda: "Siempre me gustó el arte desde muy joven. Pero crecí en un entorno que parecía tener pocas oportunidades. Luego, una serie de acontecimientos y los asesinatos de dos amigos cercanos me llevaron por un camino de doce años de consumo excesivo de alcohol y drogas.

Todo esto cambió en 2009, cuando mi compañero George me llevó a la exposición del museo de Banksy. Fue una gran llamada de atención sobre cómo había desperdiciado mi talento. Me encantó el concepto de utilizar plantillas de tamaño natural en las paredes. Plantó la semilla para enfrentarme a mis adicciones y empecé a aprender por mi cuenta y a darle a las paredes".

"Odio el dinero y la parte comercial del arte. Prefiero concentrar mi energía en entregar nuevas obras al mundo. El problema es que me resulta difícil dar a Banksy cualquier crédito por mi creación en estos días debido a las dos cosas que descubrí el último par de años: la prueba que tengo de que su equipo está boicoteando mi carrera y bloqueando mis medios de comunicación. Jamie nos cuenta más sobre él: "Nací y crecí en Weston-super-Mare. Esta fue predominantemente mi ciudad natal hasta 2016, cuando conocí a una artista urbana alemana llamada PZY. Luego me mudé a la baja Franconia y nos casamos en 2018. Ella ha pasado a un segundo plano su arte urbano en estos días y es más mi gerente y asistente. Es un juego duro y de alta presión si te lo tomas en serio y muchos artistas urbanos no duran mucho tiempo, tristemente. El entorno en el que vivo ahora es increíblemente diferente del mundo del que vengo. Tengo que mantener mi mente en un estado de intentar olvidar mientras trato de recordar las lecciones al mismo tiempo. Antes de 2016, mi recuperación estaba lejos de ser una línea recta porque las drogas parecían inevitables. Aquí, esa tentación se ha eliminado de forma masiva, aunque tiene la desventaja de ser más duro en cuanto al arte. La policía es más rápida que en GTA aquí y la gente no está acostumbrada a ver a la gente pintar el nuevo entorno, lo que también inspiró otro tipo de trabajos por mi parte."

El artista también nos cuenta qué es lo que le mantiene inspirado para crear arte: "Bueno, en junio de 2010, me paré en el borde del techo de un hotel abandonado donde estaba durmiendo en ese momento y estaba considerando seriamente saltar. Era hacer lo más fácil y dar un paso adelante y unirme a muchos de mis amigos caídos o hacer lo más difícil e intentar vencer la adicción a la bebida y las drogas y convertirme en un artista de éxito. Elegí lo segundo, pero el viaje no ha sido fácil, eso es seguro. Otro factor por el que continúo es porque me encanta la sensación de entregar nuevos trabajos a mis seguidores."

Jamie nos cuenta por qué le gusta el grafiti: "La palabra graffiti es demasiado amplia para decir que me gusta, todo tiene que ver con la intención, algunas cosas se hacen antisocialmente como un gran dedo al sistema. Esto me atraía a mí de antes, pero los garabatos realmente malos suelen ser un desperdicio de un buen lugar.
