Andoni comenzó a usar la arena en el verano de 2010, mientras estaba en la playa con sus 2 hijas. La 1ª escultura que hizo fue una sirenita, y al trabajar con ella, descubrió su "don", la fluidez de sus manos. "Mis manos sabían lo que hacían. Me dediqué a desarrollar este don y he pasado los últimos 10 años haciendo exactamente eso."

"La arena me fascina porque no importa como la mires, siempre te enseña cosas si estás dispuesto a aprender. Para crear una escultura se necesitan un número impensable de partículas de arena, bien unidas a través de la humedad, para que alguien moldee su unión. Y una vez que el artista se aleja, la obra queda a merced de la naturaleza, lo que significa que antes o después el viento las secará y liberará cada particula, consumiendo lentamente la individualidad y autenticidad."

Según Andoni, aunque hay mil razones por las que le atrae la arena, esta es la principal. De hecho, cree que los humanos deberían actuar de tal forma. "Para crear un mundo hermoso, deberíamos abrazarnos todos, estar así de unidos."

El proceso de creación es algo así: "Mi proceso de creación es la siguiente. Amontono arena humeda y con las manos lo voy modelando y buscándole la expresión, el movimiento que les dan vida. Después de encontrarles la expresión o vida, con un palito con punta y una pluma voy profundizando en la expresión haciendo visible para toda la gente pueda experimentar la vida que trasmiten, aunque sean de arenaPara ello también ulilizo, otros materiales como arenas de diferentes colores, cenizas, polvo de carbón, polvo de barros, polvos de piedras de diferentes colores, cristales u otros materiales para los ojos..."

"La duración del proceso de creaciones varía según los tamaños, por ejemplo el elefante lo hice en dos días, el toro, caballo o bisonte, cada uno en unas 12 horas. Los perros, más pequeños, de 6 a 8 horas."
