Si nunca antes has visto un zorro negro, no estás solo. En realidad son una mutación de color del zorro rojo, y son mucho más raros. A pesar de esto, muchos se refieren a ellos como si fueran una especia distinta y los llaman zorros plateados.
Esta mutación se llama melanismo y les ocurre aproximadamente a un 10% de los especímenes de la especie en libertad, ya que en cautividad se los suele criar mucho más.
